The Biblical injunction ‘whoever despises his neighbor is a sinner, but blessed is he who is generous to the poor’ {Proverbs 14:21} aptly played out on Saturday November 16, 2024 as the Church of Faith Bible Ministry organized a medical outreach where free medical consultations, tests and medications were provided to the public.
The program was carried out in conjunction with RT outreach Helping Hands Foundation; it was open to every interested person irrespective of their religious affiliation. Aside the free drugs, reading glasses were also given out to those who required them after they had undergone the necessary tests by the Optician on ground as doctors prescribed medications where necessary to people after basic checks and tests had been conducted. It was indeed a well put together and attended event despite the modest publicity for the outreach.
Some of those spoken to expressed gratitude to the church for the kind gesture while appealing for more of such following the profound effect this edition has had on them. Speaking to Upright news the head pastor of the church and brain behind the outreach program, Pastor Herbert Odika stated that the present state of the economy was a major factor behind the event. “we can see the present state of the economy, understanding that people cannot afford basic medication, I mean you have to be able to eat before you buy medicines. This is a church and we believe in the need to get experts in so that all can benefit absolutely free of charge from the free tests to at least know what’s wrong with them and be given initial medicines and prescribed to further purchase when they leave this place.”
He further reveled that the church plans to feed at least 300 persons once every week in the month of December 2024 opining that he believes one meal can do a lot in the lives of people and this is part of the church’s responsibility since churches are not taxed. The event took place within the church’ premises at KM 19, Agege Motor Road, by Ikeja – along, Lagos.
