The Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi MFR, has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic death of members of the Kano State sports contingent who lost their lives in the ghastly bus accident while returning from the recently concluded National Sports Festival in Ogun State.This was disclosed in a Press statement signed by the Chief Superintendent of Customs Tahir Balarabe, the Public Relations Officer of the Kano/Jigawa Area Command, on behalf of the Customs Area Controller (CAC), Comptroller Dalhatu Abubakar. The CGC, through Comptroller Abubakar, led a delegation of senior officers on a condolence visit to the Kano State Government on June 3, 2025, to commiserate with the government and people of Kano state over the fallen athletes.
The delegation was received at the Government House by the Deputy Governor of Kano State, Comrade Aminu Gwarzo, alongside the Secretary to the State Government and the Head of Civil Service. Speaking during the visit, Comptroller Abubakar conveyed the CGC’s heartfelt condolences and described the incident as a national tragedy. “The CGC, on behalf of the entire Nigeria Customs Service, shares in your grief and prays for strength and comfort for the bereaved families,” he stated. The Deputy Governor Gwarzo appreciated the CGC’s kind gesture and noted that the visit demonstrated true empathy and solidarity from the Nigeria Customs Service during the state’s moment of mourning. The CGC’s delegation held a solemn prayer for the souls of the deceased, asking Almighty Allah to grant them eternal rest in Jannatul Firdaus and for the swift recovery of the injured.
