Chairman of Onuimo Local Government Area in Imo State Hon. Emeka Obi, has reaffirmed the area’s commitment to peace, youth empowerment, and community safety, assuring residents and indigenes in the diaspora that Onuimo is now safe and open for investment.Speaking during a mock accreditation ceremony held for youths selected to undergo paramilitary training at the Police College, Nekede, in Owerri West LGA, Chief Obi described the initiative as a strategic move to strengthen local security and create employment opportunities for young people.According to the chairman, the programme—an initiative of Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma—is designed to recruit and train youths who will form the backbone of community policing efforts in Onuimo.”The youths of Onuimo are gathered here for a mock accreditation as they begin their journey to Police College, Nekede, where they will be trained by both police and army personnel.
After their training, they will be recruited into the local vigilante unit to enhance community policing”He noted that the initiative stemmed from the governor’s proactive approach to tackling insecurity and providing meaningful engagement for the youths “After several security challenges that led to the loss of lives and property, the governor, in his wisdom, introduced this programme as both a job creation and peace-building measure” Addressing recent media reports about alleged insecurity in the area, the council boss dismissed them as unfounded and malicious.Obi emphasized the importance of youth engagement in maintaining peace, noting that his administration has bridged the gap between the local government and the youth population.He also used the opportunity to call on investors to explore the potentials of Onuimo, assuring them of a secure and business-friendly environment.
“We have reduced insecurity to its barest minimum. What we need now is presence—investors should come and partner with the good people of Onuimo. Security of lives and property is guaranteed”To Onuimo sons and daughters living abroad, especially those planning to visit home during the Christmas holidays, Chief Obi offered words of reassurance.He assure the people in the diaspora that Onuimo is safe. We are all here and living peacefully. They should come home, relax, and enjoy the festivities without fear” In his message to the young men departing for training, the chairman charged them to be good ambassadors of the community.They should go and make Onuimo proud by displaying discipline, integrity, and good conduct. The world should see that Onuimo people are hospitable, reliable, and trustworthy”
