The Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mrs.Olubunmi Kuku, yesterday called for stronger ties, and effective communication, trust and teamwork within the aviation community. The FAAN boss made this call on the occasion of safety week, 2025, where cream of aviation journalists were addressed at the Authority’s Board Room. Mrs Kuku reiterated that stronger communication is a key drivers of safety and conflict management in the aviation system.The FAAN boss, two years after assumption of office has brought stability in the system and has continued to ensure that FAAN upholds professional ethics for the well being of everyone within the aviation ecosystem. She pledged FAAN’S commitments to ensure the right things are done all the times to enhance aviation safety. In her words;
“As we all know, aviation safety does not depend solely on technology. human factors such as communication, trust and teamwork play a crucial role. Where conflict arises, safety can be jeopardized. That is why this year, we have chosen to focus not just on compliance but on raising awareness about the importance of cultivating emotional intelligence, conflict management skills, and a culture of respect across all levels of the industry. This is vital if we are to uphold the safety of passengers, stakeholders, and staff”. The FAAN boss acknowledged recent incidents at some airport terminals saying that such developments call for more and more trainings in de- escalating tensions and maintaining composure under pressure. Mrs Kuku however hinted that FAAN is already collaborating closely with security agencies, airlines and other stakeholders to strengthen safety and security at the work place particularly around Nigeria airports.” We are aligning with global best practices while building a workforce that understands both the technical and human sides of aviation safety””. The MD reiterated.
