As the efforts to fight the use of Nigeria Custom Service Apapa Area Command as transit seaport of illicit drugs intensifies, the command just almost five days after intercepting 25.5kg of cocaine aboard a Brazilian-flagged vessel, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Apapa Area Command in conjunction with National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have recorded another major success with the seizure of 1,187 kilograms of Canadian Loud, a premium strain of cannabis, at the Apapa Port.This was disclosed in a press release issued on Thursday, 11 December 2025, by the command’s public relations officer, Chief Superintendent of Customs, Isah Sulaiman.The seizure according to the command spoke person was consequent upon credible Intelligence provided by the NDLEA, which led to the examination of a 1×20ft container, laden with two vehicles. The examination revealed 2,374 packages of cannabis, packed in 500 gram sachets and hidden in 55 bags within the vehicles.
Customs Area Controller, Apapa Area Command, Comptroller Emmanuel Oshoba reacting to the major seizure commended the strong synergy between the NCS and NDLEA, noting that the synergy has greatly dismantled drug trafficking networks at the port.“Few days ago, I stated that no consignment will exit our control from this port without due check. Our synergy as agencies of government will always put us ahead of criminal elements”, .The CAC reiterated the command’s unwavering commitment to national security.He emphasized that while Customs Apapa Area Command remains focused on facilitating trade and maximising government revenue, it will not compromise the nation’s safety.“No matter the volume of trade we are processing, we will never sacrifice national security and economy for any form of trade. While we are focused on collecting maximum revenue for government, our eagle-eyed officers are activated to be alert at all times”, he added.Comptroller Oshoba, warned that any importer, exporter, freight forwarder or licensed customs agent who attempts to test the command’s resolve during the festive season and beyond will face the full weight of the law.He further assured that investigations are ongoing on the seizure and the perpetrators involved will be prosecuted accordingly.
