The Nigeria Custom Service (NSC) Port Terminal Multipurpose Limited Area Command on Friday January 29th 2026 handled over intercepted Illegal Fire Arms and Ammunition intercepted at the PTML Command during routine checks by diligent officer to South West Coordinator, National Center for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW), South West Zone .The Controller of PTML Command, Comptroller Joe Ananni speaking during a media briefing disclosed that the seizures were as a result of :”the renewed commitment by Men and officers of PTML to enforce NCS statutory functions, anti smuggling , ensuring that prohibited items do not escape from our checks. our commitment to ensure that only legitimate trade thrives within our borders and our shared commitment to inter agency collaboration, fostering cooperation.”The CAC stated that the handing over is in line with the directives of the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi.
He posted out the seizures comprises:Five (5) pistols of different make. One (1) Crossman pump master rifle, One hundred and thirty two (132) numbers of Remington live cartridges. Fifty one (51) numbers of 9mm Lugar live ammunition. Four (4) Numbers of 9mm magazines.Fouty (40) Numbers of 9mm, NIM FC 30-30 blank and hollow ammunitions.One hundred and eighteen numbers (118) of 9mm empty shells. According to Comptroller Ananni “the arms and ammunition were uncovered in 25 different occasions by our officers during examination of imported vehicles between 2022 to 2025.” He attributed the seizures to collective due diligence of the command and other sister agencies in the port.” We are using this occasion to reiterate that PTML remains a no go area for unlawful trade under any guise. As a command, we have an unshaken commitment to implement the Revised Kyoto Convention, which is a World Customs Organisation (WCO) instrument for trade facilitation while using available manpower and technology to exercise the required control for import and export trade.”
The CAC commended the contributions towards enhancing productivity and professionalism of NCS by Unified Customs Management System (UCMS) also known as B’Odogwu .He announced that the command will receive scanners soon as part of the modernisation efforts towards and improving operational capacity of PTML Command The Comptrroller expressed to stakeholders for their compliance wnd cooperation.He highlighted that the command collected a total of forty four billion, fifty eight million, eight hundred and forty nine thousand, four hundred and sixteen naira, sixty five kobo (₦44,058,849,416.65) surpassing forty billion, four hundred and ninety seven million, five hundred and ninety four thousand, two hundred and twenty three naira, eighty nine kobo (N40,497,594,223.89) collected in Jan, 2025 represejtingb.8.8% increase in revenue.Comptroller Joe Annani formally handover the seizured fire arms and Ammunition to the National Center for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW) for appropriate actionsResponding during the handing over the South West Coordinator Retired commissioner of a police Mustapha Abiodun Alamutu expressed appreciation for the cooperation and promised to make sure that the seized arms were professionally managed
