Peace is essentially Paramount for harmony in any polity but it has become seemingly very obvious that Rivers State may in a long time to come not resolve the political crises bedeviling the State. This is because the Rivers State House of Assembly has served a notice of alleged misconduct against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy Ngozi Odu. This is seen as the first step in the impeachment proceedings against the Executive governor and his deputy. According to the Constitution, if impeachment becomes a reality the Speaker of the House of Assembly, who incidentally is Martin Amaewhule, who is pro Wike, will assume the role of Acting Governor of Rivers State.
The lawmakers and Governor Fubara have been engaged in intrigues and manoeuvres, with the lawmakers last week locking out the Governor when he came to present the 2025 Budget to them and hastily adjourning indefinitely. Fubara’s estranged political godfather, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, later said over the weekend that he would not stop the lawmakers from impeaching the embattled Governor. Rivers State has become a hot bed for political intrigues, threatening the peace and serenity of the oil rich state.This dramatic twist is certainly not going to be without consequences should the State House of Assembly go ahead to execute the impeachment as political observers call on the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu led APC government to stop this malady.
