FMC Okigwe: Rt. Hon. Onuoha Commends Tinubu

From Marcel Duru Owerri

Rt. Hon. Princess Miriam Odinaka Onuoha, Member representing Okigwe – North Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the establishment of Federal Medical Centre in Imo North Federal Constituency. Speaking at the Health Centre recently in Imo she said that the good people of Okigwe North and of course the entire Imolites, are still in a celebratory mood, following President Tinubu’s approval of the establishment of the Federal Medical Centre, Okigwe.

In his contribution Chief L. Onyewuchi Who graced the occasion said that anyone who wakes up and decides to criticize Rt. Hon. Onuoha, because FMC Okigwe is yet to be fully operational, is only being funny and sees the cup as half empty instead of being half full. It is a simple thing to know that there are processes to everything that concerns the government and so when all the t’s are crossed and the i’s dotted, then the needful will be done. “The bill was first passed by the House of Reps on December 21, 2023. It got the Senate approval ten months later on 10th October 2024, before it was assented to by Mr. President, and so what is the criticism all about? Why is it now a point of reference that nobody has been employed there or that people are yet to access healthcare over there?” He highlighted that Rt. Hon. Onuoha, who is also the Chairman, House Committee on TETfund and other services, was moved by the cries of the women and children in Okigwe North Federal constituency who are in dire need of a high-quality medical centre.

The lawmaker has been working tirelessly to bring specialized medical infrastructures to Imo State, in obvious desire to ensure quality manpower in the health system and bring healthcare closer to her people. While proposing the Bill, she argued that the proposed medical centre would improve access to healthcare delivery in Imo State and Okigwe in particular. “She has done her part as a legislator and should be commended instead of being criticized. For the benefit of those who may not know, the roles of the legislature and the executive in a government are distinct, though they work together to ensure effective governance.” As a legislator, the primary role of Rt. Hon. Onuoha is to create, amend, or repeal laws. This includes drafting and debating bills, which, if passed, become laws. She represents the interests and concerns of Okigwe North Federal Constituency in the legislative body, ensuring the constituency’s needs are considered in decision-making.”

“She and her colleagues monitor and scrutinize the actions of the executive branch, to ensure laws and policies are being implemented properly and that the executive is accountable. They also control government spending by approving budgets and allocating funds for different sectors of the economy.” He stressed that It is the responsibility of the executive to implement and enforce the laws passed by the legislature. The executive manages day-to-day operations of the government, including the implementation of programs, regulations, and services to citizens. In essence, the legislature makes laws and holds the executive accountable, while the executive enforces laws and manages the administration of the country. Onyewuchi further reiterated that Rt. Hon. Princess Miriam Odinaka Onuoha, is a passionate leader who is leaving no stone unturned, in her drive to see that the citizens of Okigwe North Federal Constituency enjoy the full dividends of democracy. Rather than criticize for criticism’s sake, we can use that energy and contribute our own quota towards making the medical center a reality.
