In what has come as a surprise to many Nigerians, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reconstituted the board of the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL). This action sees the removal of Group Chief Executive Officer Mr. Mele Kyari who was replaced by Bashir Ojulari as the new Group CEO, while Pius Akinyelure was replaced by Ahmadu Musa Kida as new non Executive Chairman.
This new development was made known by the presidents special adviser on information and strategy, Bayo Onanuga in a signed statement, released early hours of today Wednesday April 2, 2025 with the appointments taking immediate effect.
The new board has six members representing the six geopolitical zones; these are Bello Rabiu representing the North west, Yusuf Usman North East, Babs Omotowa the former MD, Nigerian Liquified Natural Gas (NLNG), representing North Central. Others are – Austin Avuru South South, David Ige South West. There’s also Henry Obih who will serve as non Executive Director from the South East.
Onanuga further revealed in the press release that the permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Finance, Mrs Lydia Shehu will represent the ministry on the board, while Aminu Ahmed represents the ministry of Petroleum resources.
