The Nigeria Custom Service has continued to intensify its operation against anti-smuggling across the Nigeria border towns and Villages with seizures of 1,577 (25 litres) kegs of PMS worth Thirty-nine Million Four Hundred and Twenty-five Thousand Naira only (₦39,425,000.00).The Comptroller-General of Customs, CGC Adewale Adeniyi MFR, represented by the National Coordinator of Whirlwind Operation ACG Hussian .K. Ejibumu disclosed this today, Friday 30th May, 2025 in his press briefing at Customs Training College, Ikeja, Lagos. The National Coordinator of Operations Whirlwind ACG Hussain K. Ejibunu pointed out that the seizures of premium motor spirit, PMS,was made across Ilaro, Imeko, Badagry, Owode and Ajilete He said; “A total of One Thousand Five Hundred and Seventy-seven (1,577) Jerrycans of PMS twenty-five (25) liters each, amounting to Thirty-nine Thousand Four Hundred and Twenty-five (39,425) liters was seized as well as Eight (8) vehicles used as means of conveyance.“
The duty paid value of the PMS product seized stands at Thirty-nine Million Four Hundred and Twenty-five Thousand Naira only (₦39,425,000.00) and that of the means of conveyance stands at Twenty-four million Naira Only (₦24,000,000) cumulatively amounting to Sixty-three million Four Hundred and Twenty-five Thousand Naira Only (₦63,425,000).“I will like to re-emphasize that there is no safe haven or hiding place for smugglers and economic saboteurs as we will continue to disrupt all their illegal activities, reducing it to the barest minimum. ACG Ejibumu also stated; “On the instruction of the Comptroller General of Customs Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR psc (+) in his magnanimity directed that the PMS is going to be auctioned immediately after this press briefing to the Nigerian citizen, with twenty-five (25) liters Jerry can, sold at an auction price of ten thousand naira only(₦10,000).”
The ACG Expressed his appreciation for the strategic partnership with the National Security Adviser ( NSA), office of the Attorney General, and NMDPRA officials for their unwavering support and co-operation, “this operation couldn’t have been successful without their collaboration”, he said. In his welcome address ,the Zonal Coordinator of South West Zone ACG Charles Obih expressed his delight with the great achievements of officers of Operations Whirlwind across Nigeria since inception; “the landmark achievement of Operations Whirlwind underscores the determination and commitment of the officers to secure the security of Nigeria” he said. Also the representative of the Attorney General of the Federation , Mrs Adewumi Aluko thanked the National Coordinator of Operations Whirlwind and the officers for their commitment to ensuring the security of the country through the fight against smuggling and warned all economic saboteurs to desist from their criminal activities.
