Hundred-level students of the Department of Business Education, Faculty of Technology and Vocational Education, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, have been urged to study hard and avoid unnecessary delays in their academic journey and also implored to remain disciplined at all times.The Head of Department, Dr. Jacinta Obidile, made the call during the maiden induction ceremony and oath-taking exercise for freshers, held on Friday, June 13, 2025, at the Multipurpose Hall of the institution. While congratulating the students, Dr. Obidile encouraged them to make the most of every opportunity to ensure a seamless academic experience. She reminded them of the importance of prompt fee payment, timely course registration, and effective time management. In his remark, the Acting Dean of the Faculty of Technology and Vocational Education, Prof. Raymond Okoye, urged the inductees to be conscientious, dedicated, and painstaking in their academic pursuits. Delivering a lecture titled “Business Education: The Bridge to Opportunities to Discover, Learn, and Lead.”
Guest speaker Dr. Gabriel Alonta described the theme as apt, visionary, and of monumental relevance, adding that “Business Education is more than a course of study; it is a life-defining journey.” According to Dr. Alonta, “Through Business Education, you will begin to discover your talent, interests, and identity. Success is not automatic; it is intentional. So, commit yourself to hard work, integrity, humility, and curiosity.” Also speaking at the event, Dr. Chidiebere Ufondu, who delivered a presentation on “Examination Malpractice,” admonished the students to eschew all forms of academic misconduct. He warned of grave consequences, including expulsion, rustication, or other disciplinary actions, while charging them to uphold high standards and conduct themselves honourably. In her remark, Comrade Kosisochukwu Orjiakor, Executive President of the Business Education Students Association (BESA), encouraged the students to take advantage of the supportive community within the Department and the university at large, in order to grow both individually and collectively.
She also emphasized the importance of maintaining a healthy balance between academics and extracurricular engagements. Earlier in the programme, the Staff Adviser, Mrs. Ogochukwu Nnonyelu, noted that the induction ceremony was not only a formal tradition but also a symbolic rite of passage, marking the transition of the students into full-fledged members of the academic family. She further urged them to embrace diligence, discipline, and determination, and to cultivate values that will set them apart in the world of business and education.The ceremony featured award presentations to outstanding students, musical performances, and games, which added colour and excitement to the event.
