CGC Adeniyi Emerges President of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation

The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (CGC), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, PhD, MFR, has continued to show the commitment of Nigeria Custom Service to national development. This unwavering commitment has resulted in the CG’s emergence as President of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF).The election, held at the Gymnasium Hall, Package B of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, on Saturday, 25th October 2025, was supervised by the National Sports Commission. It drew commendation from athletes and administrators across the country, who described the outcome as timely and strategic for Nigerian sports.CGC Adewale Bashir Adeniyi who is an avid sports development enthusiast had at different times made notable contributions to the nation’s sports development.Under his leadership, the Customs Sports Unit has become one of Nigeria’s strongest institutions in sports development, producing champions, Olympians, and role models across multiple disciplines.

Speaking after his election, CGC Adeniyi commended the reforms taking place within the nation’s sports sector and expressed optimism about its direction. CG, Adewale Bashir Adeniyi emphasized the importance of structure, transparency, and effective leadership in building sustainable progress for athletes and federations alike.“I’m beginning to see the dividends of the reforms that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is putting into the sports sector putting the right people in place, the right processes, and the right systems to drive the electoral process. I am quite satisfied, and I feel this is an environment where I can work and thrive,” he stated.His underscores a forward-looking commitment to align the Federation’s goals with national sports reforms.According to the CG this aligns with his board members and aims to focus on structure, integrity, athlete development, and innovation in the management of sport.Most members of the sports development fraternity and Stakeholders expressed their confidence on the leadership capabilities the new President of Wrestling Federal will bring, his professionalism, accountability, and renewed energy to the Federation. Many believe his reputation for teamwork and inclusiveness will inspire collaboration and lasting transformation within the wrestling community.With CGC Adeniyi at the helm, Nigerian wrestling looks set for a new chapter of strategic growth and visible results.
