The Comptroller of Apapa Area Command Emmanuel Oshoba has reassured members of the House of Representatives Committee on Safety Standards and Regulations at Apapa Port. He gave the assurance on Tuesday 4th November 2025, when the delegation led by its Chairman, Hon. David Zacharias visited the Area Command as part of their ongoing oversight function to assess safety compliance across key national agencies. Hon. Zacharias speaking during the visit pointed out that the exercise was in line with the committee’s mandate to evaluate safety practices and compliance of regulatory measures in government institutions.“The safety of Nigeria is our responsibility. Nobody will do it for us. We have seen that the Nigeria Customs Service also has a mandate tied to the safety of Nigerians. This means we share a common understanding and must work together as a team”. The Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Emmanuel Oshoba, expressed his appreciation at the committee’s visit and assured the delegation of Nigeria Customs Service unwavering commitment to safety enforcement and national security.
The CAC reiterated that the Command is committed to enforcing trade laws and intercepting substandard or prohibited items at the nation’s Prime entry points.According to Comptroller Oshoba: “We have records of seizures of such items, and we ensure they do not find their way into the Nigerian market. Within Apapa Command, we do not allow any consignment that poses harm to society or national security. We are firm on that”.He assured the lawmakers that Nigeria Custom Service would continue to work in strategic synergy with the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) and other relevant agencies to strengthen compliance and monitoring measures against substandard imports.The House of Representative committee members were taken on a facilities tour of operations at the Apapa Port, including the scanning site, and other key safety areas for first hand observation of level of compliance measures in place.
