The feverish feeling and excitement associated with the Christmas season is finally being felt, albeit late as Christians and non Christians alike rush to make last minute buys for the celebration. Reasons for this late rush is well known to all as the economic hardship which the country is going through has continued to hit the people harder than one could ever imagine.
Without a doubt Nigerians have struggled to cope with the harsh economic climate that has become more of a way of life since the early 1980’s following a return to civilian rule under the Presidency of Alhaji Aliyu Shehu Shagari, when the term Austerity Measure was introduced. Nigeria has continued to consistently slide deeper into poverty under successive leaderships (Military or Civilian).
Despite the situation, the citizens have stayed positive and resilient; thus sticking it out regardless. A visit by Upright Communications to some markets indicate a significant increase in customer visits especially the food stuff markets, as people prepare for what they and their families would eat during and after Christmas.
Some of those spoken to though thankful for being alive, however called on the present government to make life not just bearable but Worth living with dignity. They stressed the importance of improved purchasing power as fewer Naira would buy more, due to high value of the currency.
Upright Communications joins millions of Christians all over the world to celebrate this year Christmas and pray for unquantifiable favours that can only be ascribed to the supernatural to locate everyone this season.
MERRY CHRISTMAS.
