The Nigeria Customs Service, has seized 22 packages of suspected cocaine concealed in a vehicle along the Badagry Seme Atra Command in reinforced inter-agency efforts to combat cross-border drug Smuggling on Friday, 13 February 2026, Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi who was represented by the Deputy Comptroller-General in charge of Enforcement, Investigation and Inspection, Timi Bomodi, pointed out that the interception occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, 10 February 2026, at about 3 a.m. along the Badagry-Seme Boarder.Accrding to the Deputy Comptrroller General; “Our dedicated officers intercepted a Toyota Highlander conveying 22 packages of substances suspected to be cocaine.
These substances were carefully hidden in a special bunker underneath the axle of the vehicle, so expertly concealed that, but for the eagle eyes of our officers, it would have been virtually impossible to detect”, he stated.Speaking further, he said a suspect was arrested in connection with the seizure, describing the seizure as a result of credible intelligence driven operation by officers of the Seme Area Command under the leadership of Wale Adenuga. “Their professionalism and unwavering commitment once again demonstrate the Service’s resolve to safeguard our borders and protect society from the scourge of narcotic trafficking.”The Deputy Comptrroller disclosed that the seizure aligns with Section 55(1)(C) of the Nigeria Customs Service Act, 2023, empowering the Service to enforce prohibitions relating to the protection of public health and national security. He pointed out he strong link between illicit narcotics and insecurity, emphasizing the importance of sustained collaboration among government agencies.Bomodi also reiterated the Service’s commitment to vigilance, intelligence-driven operations, and sustained collaboration with sister agencies to protect communities from the dangers of illicit drugs and internationally organized crimes.
As part of inter-agency collaboration, the suspected cocaine, and the arrested suspect was handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).In his response , the Assistant Commander General, NDLEA Lagos Strategic Command, Abubakar Wali said that the seizure was part of the strict compliance of the MOU between the NDLEA and the NCS and the inter-agency collaboration to effectively fight cross-border drug trafficking. He promised that the suspect and the intercepted drugs will undergo thorough investigation and forensic analysis to ensure that all those involved face the full wrath of extant law against drug trafficking in Nigeria
