Imo State Government headed by Governor Hope Uzodimma has announced plans to modernize both primary and Secondary Schools in the State. Speaking with Journalists at the State Secretariat Port Harcourt Road in Owerri, the State capital, Commissioner of Education Professor Donald Ikegwuoha said that right now the State Government has constructed 715 Ultra modern Secondary and Primary School buildings across the 305 electoral Wards in Imo adding that modern education facilities including adequate infrastructure have been put in place in all the new primary and Secondary Schools in the State. Ikehwuoha further stated that Imo has hired 6,201 teachers to infuse in to these Schools, stressing that First School Leaving Certificate and relevant external Examination both Primary and Secondary Schools have been connected to Internet so that any where you are residing across the Globe you have access to your results.
He however said that they have demoted over 100 Principal and Headmistress who extorted money and other materials from the Students and also abolished illegal levies in all the Private and Public institutions in the State. Speaking on the private Schools he highlighted that Imo State Government has giving a matching order to Private Schools in the State to employ qualified teachers so as to avoid closure of their Schools and withdrawal of Certificate of approval. He urged Communities in the State to assist in the renovation of dilapidated Primary and Secondary Schools in their areas which was one of the agreements before the Schools were handed to government.”The Communities handed their Schools to government on agreement that they would maintain and provide security the Schools they have handed to government.”
