The immediate governor of Osun state, Ademola Adeleke has been declared the winner of saturday 15th August, 2026, gubernatorial election, by the Independent National Electoral Commission.(INEC)The Accord party candidate, Ademola Adeleke pulled 511, 067 agains his closest rival, the All progressive Congress ( APC), Mr. Oyebanji who scored 444,815 votes.The Osun election however demonstrated that, the people votes can actually count and may have rekindled the hope of many who thought that, their votes would not count.The governor popularly called “IMOLE”, dedicated his victory to the people of Osun state, and the Almighty God that made his re-election possible. He called on his opponent to join hands with him to move the state forward.” I dedicate my victory to the people of Osun state and especially the Almighty God. I expect the APC candidate to call and congratulate me. President Bola Ahmed had already called me. It is a victory for democracy. I will transform Osun from a civil servant state to an industrialized one in my second tenure”. He stressed.
The victorious Accord members in the state and its supporters waited late in the night and held their breathes while the results from various local government were announced uptill early this morning before INEC finally declared the winner.Osun election drew both local and international attentions due to heightened tention that characterized the electioneering campaigns in the past few weeks.Interestingly different observer groups that monitored the election gave kudos to INEC for conducting free, fair and credible election that everyone have applauded.Now that attention is shifted on the general elections that will take place in january, 2027, INEC therefore should not rest on its oars by ensuring that it raises its bar in the conduct of the forth coming general elections due in January whose stake is already high due to so many things threatening the country.
