As part of renewed efforts to ensure a healthy society,, Customs Officers’ Wives Association (COWA), Apapa Area Command Chapter, took its breast cancer awareness sensitization to Anjorin Market in Lagos on Wednesday, 28 October 2026, while donating relief items to the general public. The awareness campaign which aims to educate people about the dangers of cancer and how to detect it early before it reaches an advanced stage, remains part of the organisation’s core objectives.Speaking during the market women, the Chairperson, Hajiya Nafisa Mu’azu, said the campaign reminds people of the importance of regular medical check-ups and learning more about health-related matters.”Cancer is affecting a lot of people in the community, so we are here to create awareness of that. People need to know that cancer is real and they need to be healthy before they can do anything,” she said.Hajiya Nafisa further explained that cancer does not recognise age, gender, or status, and urged the public to prioritise their health. She said Apapa COWA will soon launch another health program to bridge the gap between initial medical discovery and long-term public health success.Earlier, the Customs Area Controller for the Apapa Area Command, Comptroller Murtala Mu’azu, commended COWA for the innovative health program. “We need to thank our wives for bringing up this awareness because cancer is one of the deadliest ailments we have now. It is important that we take this campaign outside, as it is a thing we do for the betterment of our environment and the general public,” he said. The event also featured an interactive session where the market women asked health-related questions, after which the organisation donated relief items to support families.
