The President of Students Association of Ngor-Okpala Comrade Livinus Ekemba has urged the governor of Imo State Senator Hope Uzodimma to reopen University of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine which was closed down during the tenure of governor Emeka Ihedioha in 2019.Speaking at Rock View Hotel Okigwe Road Owerri Imo State, Ekemba said that the closure of the University has set back Education Development in Ngor-Okpala in particular and Imo State in general, adding that it is unconstitutional for a governor to close University that has lasted for years, sacked Vice Chancellor, the Students and the entire Management and close the University down claiming that the State Govermment has no resources to manage the University.He emphasis that during the Foundation laying Ceremony of the Mbaise and Ngor-Okpala Campus of the State own University, Imo State University,, and the host Community welcome the establishment of the University and the governor Owelle Rochas OKorocha commended us for donating the Land to the government to build a University of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine in Ngor-Okpala. Egemba further stated that the Vice Chancellor of the University then, Professor Ukachukwu Awzie commended Senator Rochas OKorocha for the tremendous Support which the University has enjoyed and his Courage to establish the University of Agriculture and veterinary Medicine He opined that the then Public Relation Officer of the University of Nze Raph Njoku Obi also commended the State Government and noted that the establishment of the University was the dream of Late Sam Mbakwe has come recently.
In his own words “The University which was established over three decades ago by the Late Sam-Mbakwe of the blessed memory was intended to operate as a multi-campus system but not able to achieve because of his short term in Office. He said that the Collection of Medicine and Nursing Science has it campus Umunna Orlu while the College of Engineering is Located at Okigwe” Ekemaru also stated that right now the School of Medicine and Nursing and school of Engineering at Okigwe are now enjoyed Full Universities status.”We are dumbfounded that both professor Awuzie and Nze Raph Njoku would be in the State to see that the University of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine that started Since 2014 in Ngor-Okpala be closed down till now with out any comments from them” He stressed that whether any body likes it or not the University of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine Ngor-Okpala must be reopened.
